Blåklint & Citronfjäril

Butterflies and blåklint.full.print.jpg

Nothing says Swedish summer quite like Blåklint, and no one loves blåklint quite like the butterfly. I love that in Swedish there is a certain kind of yellow butterfly that is called Citronfjäril, which translated means Lemon Butterfly. There is something so poetic and beautiful about that name. With this print I wanted to play with the ultimate Swedish colors: yellow and blue, which are the official colors of the Swedish flag. This is my take on a field of wildflowers where the butterflies hover above and move from flower to flower with their wings fluttering as lightly and as delicately as the bat of an eyelash. The Blåklint, which is called Cornflower in English, is a very common Swedish wildflower that is also very associated with our Midsummer tradition. It is such a simple and common flower in Sweden, yet at the same time it is so beautiful which is what I wanted to capture in this illustration.
